Green Is The New White- Green Bridal Shower Ideas for the Modern Bride

Lots of smart brides today want their big day to be remembered less for the white and more for the green choices they made. Green has never been so glam! Why not honor your friend’s decision and make her shower equally as respectful to the planet? Here are just a few simple ideas for an unforgettable green bridal shower.

Invitations: There is something classy and timeless about designing and sending a thoughtful invitation to the guests of a wedding shower in honor of the bride-to-be. Why rob your friend of this pleasure when you can do it without any guilt? With Paperlicious.com, you can satisfy the etiquette-conscious and the earth-conscious with one site. Everything at paperlicious is printed on 100% recycled fiber paper and made to order to fit any wedding shower theme or budget. Some of our favorites - the calla lilly bold invites and green vine invites - both are natural with a simple elegance.

To begin a green theme shower, you will need to kindly let your guests in on some of your ideas as to how they can take part. Being green is a personal choice. Use the wording of your invites to convey the importance of eco-friendliness to your guests without sounding bossy:

It’s time to shower Annie and Ben
With everything they need.
So as they walk through life together,
Their footprints will be green.

Let’s help Eve and Rob feather their nest
With gifts that give our world a rest

Food: Have a garden brunch or afternoon tea and ask each guest to bring her own place setting from her china or dining set. Each guest can share the story of her dishes and there will be no paper plates to toss in the trash.

Serve an iced green or white tea with blueberries and mint in a glass pitcher. Make cucumber tea sandwiches on a whole wheat bread. You can find both locally in almost any town. Green salad with local produce and herbs is another fresh menu option.

Decorate your table with small potted herbs that guests can take home for a favor.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle: Encourage guests to use their creativity to wrap or display their gift for the bride. If they need some ideas: fill a picnic basket with some of the couples’ dishes or a bottle of local/organic wine and some stemware of the registry. Buy sheets and open them to have the pillowcases monogrammed then wrap the sheet set inside the cases. You could ask guests to wrap with tea towels to stock up the bride and groom’s kitchen linens. Fill a basket with green household cleaning items. You get the idea- the point here is to nix the wrapping paper but still hide the surprise of the gift.

Have Fun: For an activity, why not decorate some kitchen towels for the bride so that when she uses them, she will think of all of her friends. Purchase some organic cotton towels. Ecokitchen.com offers organic white tea towels that would make the perfect blank canvas to personalize. Use non-toxic paints and leftover fabric and trim scraps from friends who craft. If you want to try just one craft for everyone to work on together, look at the organic cotton aprons on kushtush.com.

Remember to order your friend some 100% recycled fiber thank you notes from Paperlicious.com that coordinate with your shower theme. She’ll thank you for saving her the trouble and for saving our world!

Go Green Baby- Green Baby Shower Tips & Ideas

Have you heard? Green is the new pink and blue when it comes to baby showers! And Paperlicious.com is the place to start for the hippest baby invites around that are kind to the environment, printed on 100% recycled fiber paper. (Hurry, Paperlicious is offering an additional 15% off with code LOVETHEEARTH for a limited time).

Décor: Color it green! With paperlicious, you can go green dots, green paisley, green floral, green gingham, and on and on. We love the twin peas in a pod invites for mommies of multiples.
Try using natural elements in your decorating. Use small potted houseplants, bamboo, flowers, etc. to draw attention to the beauty and serenity of living things. What better way to celebrate new life?

Cut the Trash in Half: In lieu of gift wrap, ask guests to wrap their gift with a baby towel, blanket, or burp cloth, or to put their gift inside of a reusable shopping bag. Instead of a trash can full of once-used giftwrap, Mama will go home with even more for Baby and herself.
Care2.com says that using paper napkins is about twice as energy-intensive as using cloth napkins. With that in mind, why not opt for some green cloth napkins? It’s like giving a hostess gift to yourself that you can use again and again. We like the pattern and color choices available on soylarcandles.com.

Food: Luckily, carrying the green theme over to your party menu means your food choices will also be healthier for your guests. Cut up some of your favorite green fruits like green apples and kiwi and green grapes to make a fruit salad. Check out your local farmer’s market or natural food store to see what veggies your local farmers have to offer. Providing local food at your party cuts down on the fuel that was required to get the food to its destination. Use green sherbet and gingerale to make a sweet, frothy, green punch. Make sugar cookies cut out in the shape of a pea pod. You can get a great peapod cutter at www.coppergifts.com.

Activities and Favors: Healthy Child, Healthy World” is a guidebook for parents about how to create a cleaner, healthier world for their children. It is also full of fun info about green celebrities and what some of their favorite products are. You could create a trivia or matching game to play or gather some of the products for your guests to try out. A copy of this book would make a fabulous prize for a winner or gift for the mama to be.

Send guests home with a small tree to plant in honor of Baby. Paperlicious.com offers gift favor tags (printed on 100% recycled eco-friendly paper) to make the trees more personal. Say something like: “Thank you for making my world a better place to grow!”

PAPERLICIOUS.COM GOES GREENER WITH 100% RECYCLED FIBER PAPER

Wednesday, April 22, 2009 – ATHENS, GEORGIA – Paperlicious, an online custom-printed invitations and stationery boutique known for their stylish affordable paper goods, announced today that they will now use 100% recycled fiber paper from Neenah Environment for all of their printed products, including invitations, social notes, and Momager Calling Cards. This is a change from their previous 50% recycled fiber stock, which has been used since the company’s inception in 2005.

After enjoying tremendous growth in both 2006 and 2007, owner Amy DeRouen Nelson decided the time was right to up the ante on Paperlicious’ socially responsible mind-set. “We decided to make the switch from 50% recycled fiber to 100% because we felt to be a truly socially responsible company, we need to do as much as possible. 50% is good, but 100% is well 100%! We made the switch without a price increase for our customers too, because in addition to being socially responsible, we also feel it is important to be economically responsible. We think our customers appreciate our green efforts and our affordability factor. In fact, we see it as part of our customer relationship responsibility.”

The 100% recycled fiber paper that Paperlicious chose, Neenah Environgment, is Forest Stewardship Council certified, processed chlorine free and Green-e certified. Green-e is the nation's leading independent certification and verification program for renewable energy and greenhouse gas emission reductions in the retail market. According to the Neenah Paper website, using recycled fiber takes about 1.4 tons out of the land fill to produce 1.0 tons of recycled fiber. In addition less water, fewer chemicals and less energy are required.

Using recycled fiber paper is not the only way Paperlicious supports their community. The sale of many Paperlicious products trigger donations to various charities. For example, for every order received for their Twins!! line, Paperlicious donates $1 to the March of Dimes. Paperlicious also supports Operation Happy Note, a charity that provides musical instruments to soldiers overseas, and Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, an organization that is determined to find a cure for Type I Diabetes.

Gifts & Decorative Accessories called Paperlicious a “fresh face” of the 2006 National Stationery Show. Paperlicious products have been featured in Pregnancy Magazine, Parents Magazine Goody Blog, and popular Mom-Blogs across the web, among the highlights. The online stationery hub has catered to such high-profile clients as Kid Rock, Pamela Anderson, and Nicollette Sheridan.
